Abstract

This article discusses pro- and anti-American attitudes in Latin America, on the basis of the surveys conducted for the project Mexico, the Americas and the World. These allow discussion of the dominant ideas within the debate, which indicate a deep antiAmericanism in the region. Based on analysis of the results of the surveys, we argue that it is not possible to ascribe a pro- or  anti-American identity to countries for the region, and that on the contrary they display both tendencies.
