Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The manuscript follows the Guidelines for the Authors and the journal's Ethics and Best Practices Guidelines.

  • The references follow the author-date format and appear in consecutively-numbered footnotes, as established in the Guidelines for Authors (points 5 and 6). A bibliography containing all referenced sources is included at the end of the text.

  • The manuscript has not been previously published in any language, nor is it under consideration for publication by another journal. If necessary, you may include comments in the section Comments to the Editor.

  • The manuscript is written in a way that maintains the anonymity of the author or authors (does not apply for book reviews).

  • Graphs and other visual elements have been attached in the "Upload supplementary files" section.

  • The file for submission is in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or an equivalent format.

Author Guidelines

 

Articles

  1. The journal accepts article submissions in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. Articles accepted in the peer-review process and originally written in English or Portuguese will be translated into Spanish, which is the journal's primary language. Selected articles may also be published in a second language (either in English or Portuguese) in the digital edition. Decisions in this regard are made by the Editorial Board, based on criteria of quality and thematic interest. The Board may also approve the translation into English of articles originally written in Spanish, for bilingual publication.

  2. The journal will only consider original, research-based articles in the fields of international relations, comparative politics, Mexican politics, public administration, and political theory.

  3. Manuscripts submitted to Foro Internacional cannot be simultaneously under consideration by another journal. Articles previously published in any language or format will also not be accepted. In cases of plagiarism or other unethical practices, the article will be rejected, or if already published, it will be retracted in accordance with he journal's Ethical and Good Practices Guidelines. Authors are expected to consult and strictly comply with these Guidelines, as well as with the journal's Research Transparency Policy.

  4. Articles must include an abstract (maximum 150 words) and five keywords, in both Spanish and English. The article title must also appear in Spanish and English (maximum 10 words).

  5. For citation and references, the journal uses a style based on the author-date system of the Chicago Manual of Style. References should be included in consecutively numbered footnotes (not in parentheses in the text), as in this sentence.1 References will contain the author's last name and the year of publication, with no punctuation before the year. For example, 1Rawls 1971. A comma is used to separate the publication date from the page number when referring to specific pages, e.g., Rawls 1971, 56. The journal's style guide (in Spanish) outlines general criteria, provides examples of how to cite various types of sources, and explains how to adapt the Chicago style to Spanish. If you are submitting an article in English, please follow the Chicago Manual's guidelines. 

  6. In addition to references in footnotes, a bibliography should be included at the end of the text. The bibliography should only contain sources cited in the text and be ordered alphabetically by the first author's last name. For example:

  1. Citations of up to five lines should appear in the body of the text, enclosed in quotation marks. Longer citations should be presented as a separate paragraph, indented on both sides, single-spaced, and without quotation marks. When the quote contains additions by the author, these should be enclosed in square brackets. All quotes in the text must be accompanied by the corresponding bibliographic reference.

  2. When using acronyms, authors should spell out the full name on first use, followed by the acronym in parentheses. The acronym may be used thereafter.

  3. Authors should submit a cover letter containing author contact information, including full name(s), institutional affiliation, and postal and email addresses. All data provided is protected by our Privacy Policy.

  4. Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal's website. To submit a manuscript, registration is required, or if you already have an account, please log in. The maximum length is be 10,000 words (including footnotes, tables, figures, and bibliography). Manuscripts should be submitted in Word format or equivalent, in 12-point font with double spacing.

  5. If the text contains visual or graphic elements, authors must submit the source files in an editable format (e.g., MS Excel).

  6. Articles submitted to Foro Internacional will be sent out for academic peer-review by specialists in the field, following the principle of double-blind review. Manuscripts must be written in a way that maintains the anonymity of the authors. With this end, authors should avoid excessive self-citation and ensure that their citations do not reveal their identity.

  7. Upon receipt of the reviews, the journal will make a decision about publication and communicate it to the author(s), if possible within a period of no more than three months. Only articles that receive at least two favorable peer reviews will be eligible for publication. The Editorial Board may reject manuscripts in a pre-review stage (desk rejection) if they are not based on academic research, do not meet minimum quality standards, or fall outside the journal's subject areas.   8. Upon acceptance of a manuscript, authors will be asked to provide written authorization to Foro Internacional to publish their work in both print and digital formats. The authors must declare that the submitted manuscript is original, has not been previously published in whole or in part, and does not infringe third-party copyrights.

  9. Authors will receive three copies of the printed journal. For co-authored articles, each will receive two copies.

 

Book reviews

  1. The journal publishes reviews of academic books published within the last three years from the time of submission. Reviews must be submitted in Spanish.

  2. The books reviewed should belong to a prestigious academic publisher and contribute to the disciplinary fields of the journal, including international relations, comparative politics, public administration, and political theory.

  3. Reviews must be submitted electronically through the journal’s website. The maximum length is 2,500 words (including footnotes and bibliography, if applicable). Reviews should be submitted in Word or equivalent format, using a 12-point font with double spacing. To submit a review, registration is required, or if you already have an account, please log in.

  4. The complete reference of the reviewed work (including the name of the author, title, year of publication, and publisher) should be included at the beginning of the document. Additionally, the name of the reviewer, their institutional affiliation, and contact information must be provided.

  5. The decision on which book reviews are published rests with the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board, based on criteria of quality, relevance, and available space in the journal. 

Privacy Statement

The names, email addresses, and all personal data of registered users in the journal will be used exclusively for internal editorial purposes. Under no circumstances will they be shared with third parties. Users have the right to access, correct, and delete their information.
